Framer CMS Update: Index Variable and Layout Controls Added

Posted on April 17, 2025

Framer's development team has introduced a substantial CMS update that brings new layout control capabilities to their platform. At the core of this release is the new Index variable, allowing designers to exercise precise control over element positioning within their layouts.

This advancement enables content elements to span across multiple rows or columns while supporting position-based Component Variants. Designers now have access to dynamic layout variations, alternating card alignments, and position-based styling options for creating sophisticated visual hierarchies.

The platform now features the ⌥C keyboard shortcut for rapid CMS access, complemented by enhanced field editing and sorting capabilities. New number transformation functions include Is Odd and Is Even, while Gallery variable controls and Date field handling have been refined for improved functionality.

The interface has received several quality-of-life improvements, including enhanced divider visibility between CMS items, streamlined CSV email processing, and optimized table controls. Mobile interactions, rich text navigation, draft header borders, and pagination in breakpoints have all been enhanced for a more fluid design experience.

To demonstrate these capabilities, Framer has launched a dedicated showcase site where designers can explore practical applications of these new features.
