Framer Introduces REM Sizing and Performance Updates

Posted on May 1, 2025

Framer has launched a significant platform update introducing REM-based sizing functionality, operating on a default 16 pixel base value. This advancement enables truly responsive typography management across design projects.

Designers can now leverage relative type scaling through customizable base values for each Breakpoint, with Text layers automatically adapting to these settings. Layout Templates serve as the central hub for managing both Breakpoints and base sizes, eliminating the need for manual Text Style adjustments.

The platform showcases notable performance improvements, featuring faster menu operations, streamlined quick actions, and enhanced interface responsiveness. YouTube integration now accommodates livestreams and playlists, while component update notifications and page navigation have been optimized.

Technical refinements include fixes for UI element pinning, component deletion controls, and Layout Template home page swaps. The Color Picker tool has been enhanced, accompanied by various UI rendering optimizations.
